I was introduced to Highland Games in 2013 while attending the Scottish Highland Gathering and Games in Pleasanton, California. I stopped by the festival to check into ancestry information, and to sign up for my family clan (Cunningham). Ryan Viera’s throwing caught my eye, and then I saw Beth Burton and the California women having fun on the field. I immediately reached out to Ryan Viera and asked how to get involved. He gave me a quick HG 101 training session and then I attended my first game. In all truthfulness, Highland Games did not click with me at this first game in California. It was after I moved to the east coast and met the Buffalo Heavies that I found the love and camaraderie I was searching for…and that was where my HG spark was truly lit.
I’ve met so many beautiful souls throughout my time in the Scottish community, and I honestly can’t wait to continue meeting new people and seeing the world in the process.
My goal is to spark that same fire for Highland Games and camaraderie everywhere I go, catapulting SOHT’s mission like seeds in the wind. I hope all of our Sisters share that same spark and help us make that happen.

As I was planning my retirement from the Air Force, I began looking for a community that had the same comradery. I found Battle Born Athletics in Southern Nevada and started practicing in 2018. Every game I have attended is an experience that I am truly grateful for. The heritage, the people, and the sense of family are unrivaled and keep me wanting more. In the early summer of 2020, I had the privilege of competing with Jo Barron and Jen Taylor; out of that competition, the Sisterhood was born, and I became VP of Operations. I am involved in planning and strategizing for the SOHT. I also collaborate with many athletic directors and societies to promote women's presence within the Highland games. I feel it is mportant to promote and encourage young women to visit a field and participate. I am looking forward to the next season to see see some of those young women throw.
